SUNNYSIDE COGENERATION ASSOCIATE'S FACILITY - Active Surface Operation, Permit ACT/007/035
The Sunnyside Cogeneration Associate's (SCA) has a cogeneration facility located adjacent to the Book Cliffs Coal Field approximately 25 miles east of Price, Utah. This facility utilizes the coarse refuse and slurry impoundments, and is comprised of 310 permit acres that were once part of the now closed Sunnyside Mine.
Sunnyside Cogeneration Associates's fueling plan will require excavating the slurry fines and the coarse refuse; blending; and then burning this material in the power plant. This facility started in 1993 and is proposed to continue for twenty years. Mining at Sunnyside began during the late 1890's and ceased in 1994.
